Week 15 Picks - Part 3

For most football followers, the game in DENVER this week is mouth watering. Tim Tebow did it again last week. Again just won’t go away and neither will these Broncos. Tebow doesn’t know when he’s beaten and his teammates’ belief in him is unshakeable. The combination of the two is potent, but you have to think that should they make the playoffs, it’s a formula that won’t get very far.
The opportunity to test the theory comes this week when NEW ENGLAND roll into town. Tebow, the unconventional, chaotic quarterback against Tom Brady, the machine of orthodoxy and future first ballot Hall of Famer. It’s a wonderful contrast and will have me glued to it. The spread is Denver + 7.5 and surely everything in this game will come down to the final minute(s) as all things do when the Broncos are on the field at the moment. I daresay that the Patriots minus just a little over a touchdown looks attractive to a lot of people, but it’s not something I’m going to be taking advantage of. I love the Broncos with that start and believe this will (yes, once again) go down to the final few moments so let’s take those juicy points on offer, shall we?

Not before time perhaps, the NEW YORK JETS have hit something of a hot streak and to do so in late November and December is what has taken many teams previously deep into the playoffs. I’m not saying that’s what awaits the Jets this season, but they’re dangerous, something the Patriots can attest to from last season. Looking to play the part of spoiler is PHILADELPHIA. Having barely bothered to turn up when trounced by the Seahawks two weeks ago, they came back with an impressive showing against the hot Dolphins in Miami last Sunday. The W coincided with the return of Michael Vick and while his stats weren’t that impressive, he’s clearly a better option than Vince Young. The 26-10 win over the Fish made me sit up and the Jets will have been warned watching film of that game this week, but the fact remains that we don’t know which Eagles team will turn up on Sunday. With that in mind, it makes them almost impossible to bet on, but they can reward those who have the faith. Unfotunately, that doesn’t include me and I’m liking the Jets + 3. That’ll probably now translate to a 31-10 Eagles win and I’ll look foolish, but I will go for a scoreline here, now I’ve already mentioned one. Jets 20-19 Eagles.

Colt McCoy will be missing for CLEVELAND when the Browns travel to ARIZONA to take on the Cardinals, meaning that Seneca Wallace gets the start. The Cards are hot right now, coming off wins over the Cowboys and 49ers and covering the spread on both occasions. What’s to stop them making it three in a row? The small matter of a Cleveland team belying their 4-9 record. They’ve played hard over their last three games, but a closer look tells us that they were all against division opponents and they threw everything at Pittsburgh last Thursday night. That was an emotional loss and I just plain don’t see them playing with the same intensity this week. I woudn’t say I love the Cardinals – 6.5, but I’m happy to place more than a small wager on them to cover.
