Week 14: New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys

NEW YORK GIANTS @ DALLAS COWBOYS

Vegas Line: Giants + 4.5

Rob’s Line: Giants + 4.5

This is quite the spectacle to put on primetime on Sunday night as the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys battle for NFC East supremacy. What both teams do know is that whichever of them ultimately comes out on top at the end of the season will definitely be playing on wildcard weekend.
It will be a home game though and as we saw when Seattle surprised the champion New Orleans Saints last January on wildcard weekend, anything’s possible when you play at home in the playoffs.
The Giants are on a four game skid, but they saved their best performance in that span for when the Packers came to town last Sunday, only going down by three points to a field goal as time expired. It has been a brutal mid-season schedule for the Big Blue and if they feared that it may be their undoing, then those fears have been well and truly realised. There is some possible respite next week when they host the Redskins, but after that follows the Jets and these Cowboys once again.
Dallas went in to Arizona last week on a four game winning streak, but for the seventh time in eight contests, they lost in the desert. It’s quite amazing how the Cowboys somehow always find a way to lose on the road to the Cardinals. Can they bounce back this week? They have all the motivation they need as a win here puts them two games clear of the Giants with only three regular season games to play. However, they don’t appear to be in the best of form. Before last week’s defeat, they squeaked past Miami by a single point on a field goal as time expired and a week prior to that they had to go to overtime to beat the Redskins.
As mentioned before, the Giants decided that they’d better really start playing just last week and with this being a game they really can’t afford to lose, I think I like our chances with points on offer. Also, here’s a stat for you…over their past six games, the Cowboys are 1-5 against the spread. I do need to thank WalterFootball.com for that particular nugget and it’s one that bodes well for those of you happy to place your faith in the Big Blue.
I am going to be one of those as, aside from us handicappers needing to formulate a spread for betting purposes, with all that’s at stake here in a divisional game, you could make a strong case for the Giants to win from scratch. And that’s why I love the points on offer.
