Week 11: Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins

 DALLAS COWBOYS @ WASHINGTON REDSKINS
Vegas Line: Redskins + 7

Rob’s Line: Redskins + 5.5

Yes, I’m probably overestimating Washington’s chances and while I’m not coy when saying Vegas appear to have got it wrong (in my humble opinion), if I take more time to consider this spread, I think Vegas’s is a truer reflection.

Dallas have gone 3-3 over their past six games, but a closer look at the stats tells us that that could so easily have been 5-1 as defeats to the Lions and Patriots were heartbreaking losses. A 7-2 Cowboys team would really be the talk of the town, but they’ve been consigned to a back room whisper as their 5-4 record sees them behind the NFC East leading New York Giants. However, with those two still having to play each other twice, the division is wide open and the Cowboys are getting hot at just the right time.
DeMarco Murray has been nothing short of sensational deputising for the injured Felix Jones at running back, averaging 6.7 yards per carry and when Jones returns, he’ll probably find himself as the new backup. That imminent return may or may not be this week as I’ve read conflicting reports so don’t want to comment one way or the other, but when he does it gives Dallas a rushing attack to rival that of Houston’s (Arian Foster and Ben Tate) and Texas the most old school football look in the country. And I, for one, am all for it.
Washington’s travails are well documented and their season began unravelling as early as Week 6 when Philadelphia embarrassed them on their home turf and that game also coincided with the beginning of their shattering injury crisis. They’ve averaged 10.6 points per game over their last five games and that isn’t anything like good enough in the NFL and coach Mike Shanahan has reverted back to Rex Grossman at quarterback in hope of finding the W again. Unfortunately, the Cowboys won’t be in anything like a mood approaching charitable.
Dallas are by no means certainties to cover the spread, but if they’re serious about usurping the Giants, they’ll want to make statements as big as last week when they destroyed Buffalo so I take them to do just that this week and keep up the pressure on the blue half of New York.
